How can I play Elowyn: Quest of Time?

Elowyn: Quest of Time is a fun and strategic transformation game for co-creating a thrivable future. Players will take on deceptive forces that lure humanity into self-destruction, referred to as ‘Moloch’ in the game lore. Moloch is a concept in game theory referencing an ancient demon that lures us into sacrificing our future for short-term gains and false promises. The Moloch dynamic on Earth is invisible to the average player, and yet most of us are trapped in it. Our game will help reveal its inner workings in a playful, empowering way. 

The roadmap begins with a freemium web-based CCG (collectible card game) teaser, introducing you to the cunning Moloch AI. In this teaser, you will play a card battle game with novel deception mechanics. At the same time, you will learn how Moloch dynamics play out in real life.

In the Eloywn lore, the adaptive Moloch AI will be unleashed in larger and larger play spaces. In terms of roadmap, it will expand its influence across various modes of gameplay. What starts as a fun card game will soon transform into new game genres, including an eventual immersive MMORPG where you can hack your destiny from a more evolved future world. Will the game be free to play?

The game is designed as a freemium experience to make it accessible to a wider audience. You can get started with gameplay without providing any payment information. Our freemium model allows you to accrue EWA tokens in your account, however, these tokens cannot be spent or withdrawn until you upgrade to the licensed version. Furthermore, gameplay is limited to the first battle with the Moloch AI. Access to other types of play and upgrades unlocks once you purchase the licensed version. 

Your purchase also acts as a collective investment in the game, so we can continue to develop and evolve the game environment with ongoing benefits for the community and EWA token holders. Our game economy is purposefully designed to grow as a community-led ecosystem that can catalyze positive transformation in real-world economies, and in support of the Earth. 

When will the game be launched?

Elowyn features a range of gameplay models that expand and evolve. We’re kicking off with a free and exciting teaser of the pre-Alpha CCG in mid-November 2024. Exclusive pre-public access is available for those who've signed up for our Community Calls or the pre-Alpha launch party.

The teaser starts by battling the Shadow Arcs of the Moloch AI. After the Alpha release of the CCG, in Q2 of 2025, we'll continue the MMORPG development (POC has been completed). Stay tuned for these thrilling updates!

Is the Game Community already online?

Yes, we're building the game community via our Discord and Telegram channels. Here you can get to know the fascinating characters of the game, and join us in some early puzzles, quizzes, and real-life missions. By joining our community you can also give us input on the game development, with upcoming test-player opportunities and polls on new features. What is EARTHwise, and what does it do?

EARTHwise is the name of our brand, which is a collaborative ecosystem of organizations and movements that work together for the transformation of our societies based on our collective stewardship for the Earth and future generations. The name EARTHwise means to become wise like the Earth. The game was first developed through EARTHwise Centre, our non-profit company based in Mauritius. Does the EWA Token have any real-world value?

Yes, the cryptographic token EWA is the native in-game token for the Elowyn game and is based on the ERC-20 token standard and minted on both the Base blockchain and Ethereum. EWA is created as a single-token ecosystem, functioning as the spendable currency in the EARTHwise ecosystem, an in-game utility token, and the governance token of the Elowyn DAO. Beyond this, the token is used for staking and features a robust deflationary mechanism to drive value back to holders. 

As a spendable currency in the EARTHwise ecosystem, EWA can also be used in the future to purchase our courses, coaching classes, masterclasses, retreats, and events at a discount to other supported payment methods. To learn more, read our Whitepaper.

What is a DAO and why is this part of the game?

The word ‘DAO’ means Decentralized Autonomous Organization, built on blockchain technology. The Elowyn DAO is the place for the EWA token holders to make decisions together on governance, as well as the resources that form part of the collective DAO Treasury. A DAO provides a great platform for making decisions collectively, based on shared values, openness, and trust. The game Guilds form part of the Elowyn DAO.

Why and how did the game come about?

The idea for the game came to our founder, Dr. Anneloes Smitsman, in early 2021 while she wrote Return of the Avatars, the second book of the Future Humans Trilogy, which she co-authored with the renowned author Dr. Jean Houston. In the stories of the future humans, the game evolves from a Cosmic Compass that Rose, the main character, sees in her dreams to navigate through our turbulent times. Anneloes has since applied her Cosmic Compass design to numerous governance frameworks, including the EARTHwise Constitution for a Planetary Civilization and the Participatory Framework for creating a Global AGI Constitution.
